December

How gratifying and truly fab to see the "house full" signs coming out yet again - for the 4th or fifth time in the 2016 season, which is proving to be a great one in terms of popularity and buoyant ticket sales. It was also satisfying to see the successful return to the Talisman stage of several actors who have not done anything with us for a while.
"How the Other Half Loves" is a difficult piece and the amazing Vanessa and her team worked very hard to capture the style, characters and wonderful comedy of the play. In this they were ably assisted, nay abetted, by an imaginative set design by Paul Chokran and a super backstage team headed up by Graham Underhill as Stage Manager. Thanks go to all involved in this vibrant show.
Well, it's mid November and the shops have therefore been full of Christmas cards, wrapping paper and other festive goodies for several weeks now - and those John Lewis and M and S adverts are all over our T.Vs - so it must be Christmas soon and where there's Christmas, there's the Talisman panto.
This year we have a spanking brand new one - "Red Riding Hood" penned and directed by our very own Stephen Duckham and with a brand new (to us) Dame, in the person of Kenny Robinson. It even has a new Designer in the form of Gill Bowser (is there anything this lady can't do?)The whole theatre is already working flat out to ensure that this is a sparkling one, to treasure, and, of course, as always, such a monumental stage offering as the pantomime deserves our full support. Some shows are already booked up - so get your tickets early!
Lots of members have been bemoaning the recent lack of SSNs Well, next Saturday (19th Nov) sees a treat - a "Studio Quickie" (New name - do you see what we have done here?) featuring some loved pieces of Shakespeare's writing, some Talis - actors and some wine and quiches (get it now?) and over-seen with creativity by Bryan Ferriman. In the Studio at 8 pm 3 for members.
OCTOBER 2017 - I am delighted to announce that after a protracted Summer break, during which some very necessary repairs will be undertaken, we are planning to re-open on Saturday 30th September, with a flourish and a Gala Evening to start our production of one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century - Arthur Miller's "The Crucible". This will run until the following Saturday (7th Oct) and offers a huge range of great acting roles. It will be directed by Sam Harris and audition details will be given later
I meant, in the last edition, to wish Clive and Jackie Taylor all the best on their recent move and to thank them for all their dedicated service to the Talisman over so many years - so I'll do that now. Only one last duty - first time this year - Happy Christmas and a great New Year - to all Talisfolk,
Chris
