Moving on a stage – Developing our Community Space
Whilst details of our full development plans are set out below, we’ve decided to carry the work out in stages.
The first stage will be the development of a fringe stage – our Community Space – along with improvements to our foyer/bar area and box office. This will provide an additional rehearsal and performance area and provide our patrons with a more comfortable experience, both in space and layout.
This first phase will cost around £275,000 pounds and we’re hopeful, subject to funding, to be able to complete this in 2021. We’ll then move on to the remaining parts to the project as funding permits.
Moving on a stage – Full Development
Our Theatre is now over 50 years old and showing signs of age. We are embarking on an ambitious modernisation project which will provide a much improved experience for both customers and performers alike.
We achieved full planning permission in April 2019 for the construction of a two storey extension which will incorporate a much larger first floor studio space with full access via a new lift.
The development will bring us considerable benefits:
The modern studio will provide a space for rehearsals, recitals, comedy shows, dance and also provide a community space. Importantly it will help our vital youth group to flourish.
Improved accessibility to the entrance, front of house and box office for all users.
An enlarged bar area making the customer experience better.
Enlarged and modernised toilet facilities
Dressing rooms and wardrobe areas enlarged and improved
The scheme will also enable us to be both environmentally and economically sustainable.
The development will cost close to £1.2 million and we have a number of grant applications either submitted or being prepared. We will fund around a third from our own resources and this is where we need your help. We need to raise around £200,000 from local fundraising which will be a challenge but where everybody can show how much the Talisman means to the community.
