SUMMARY:BLEAK EXPECTATIONS
DESCRIPTION:BLEAK EXPECTATIONS\n24th – 28th August 2026\nMischief\, mayhem and darkly comic chaos.\nPrepare for a hilarious evening of joy and laughter as Dickens meets Monty Python in this chaotic comic caper. \nFollow the story of Pip Bin and his family and friends as they scramble to escape the clutches of dastardly villains and find true love. Spot the Dickensian characters as they uphold their Victorian values in this non-stop comic farce that sees them send up Britishness with oodles of silliness as they race towards their (hopefully) happy ending. \nBased on the award-winning BBC Radio 4 series\, this Mark Evans play enjoyed a highly successful run in the West End. So take a trip back to Victorian England in this fast-paced and inventive production\, featuring a host of instantly-familiar characters that will have you rolling in the aisles. \nAge recommendation: 12+ or at parental discretion. \nAn amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

SUMMARY:Keeping Our End Up Audition
DESCRIPTION:‘Keeping Our End Up’ by Mark Carey\n\n\n\n\n \n‘Keeping Our End Up’ by Mark Carey \n– AUDITION NOTICE \nDirector: Gill Halford \nProduction Manager: Jane Yates \nProduction dates: Monday 17th to Saturday 22nd May 2027 \n\nAUDITION\nSaturday 10th October 2026\, 10.00am\, Talisman Theatre \nRehearsals will run from Monday 22nd March to Sunday 16th May 2027. There will be no rehearsals from Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive. Sunday rehearsal timings will be agreed with the company. \n\nABOUT THE PLAY\nKeeping Our End Up is a sharply observed\, warm-hearted comedy-drama set in a tired village sports pavilion\, where five women in a struggling bowls team confront rivalry\, relationships\, fading traditions and their own personal battles. \nThe play blends humour with moments of honesty and poignancy\, offering rich character work and strong ensemble interaction. \n\nROLES\nAll roles are female-presenting. Ages are flexible depending on casting needs. \nVeronica (Ronnie) – Team captain. Priggish\, patronising and determined to maintain order despite her own insecurities. A woman clinging to tradition and control. A retired magistrate. \nUrsula – A team member dealing with troubles in her marriage. Sensitive\, anxious and often overwhelmed. She ran the village shop until it was forced to close. \nFiona (Fi) – Another member of the team\, also navigating marital issues. Warm\, emotional and searching for connection. A secretary in a law practice. \nJoan – Outrageous\, mischievous and often the comic spark of the group. Known for stirring trouble and slipping into drunkenness with flair. A dinner lady at the local primary school. \nJan – The quiet\, obsessive tea-maker of the group. Gentle\, nervous and often the peacemaker. A teacher at the local primary school. \nPlease note: male voices are also heard during the play – a local farmer and the Bowls Club Chairman. Casting for these roles will not take place during the main audition. \n\nABOUT THE CHARACTERS & THEMES\nFemale Friendship & Solidarity \nThe bowls team becomes a microcosm of women’s lives – shared frustrations\, humour\, resilience and the emotional weight they carry. \n  \nPersonal Struggles Behind Everyday Life \nHusband troubles\, loneliness\, insecurity and unspoken sadness simmer beneath the comedy\, giving the play emotional depth. \n  \nHumour as a Coping Mechanism \nRich comic absurdity balances moments of honesty and revelation\, showing how humour helps people navigate disappointment\, loss and conflict. \nFor the audition\, we are looking for honest\, true-to-life performances that bring out the humour while ensuring the audience really cares about what happens to each character.

SUMMARY:The Herbal Bed Audition
DESCRIPTION:‘The Herbal Bed’ by Peter Whelan\n\n\n\n\n \n‘The Herbal Bed’ by Peter Whelan \nDirector: Steve Smith \nProduction Manager: Wendy Elliott \nDesigner: John Ellam \nProduction dates: Monday 12th to Saturday 17th April 2027 \n\nAUDITION\nSaturday 10th October 2026\, 10.00am – 1.00pm\, Talisman Theatre \nRehearsals will begin on Sunday 21st February 2027 and will take place on Sundays\, Mondays\, Wednesdays and Fridays. \nPlease note: you must be available for every rehearsal from Sunday 28th March onwards. \n\nABOUT THE PLAY\nThis beautifully written emotional thriller\, set in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1613\, is based on a true story involving William Shakespeare’s eldest daughter\, Susanna. First produced by the RSC in 1996\, the original cast featured both Joseph Fiennes and David Tennant. \nSusanna is married to John Hall\, a highly respected physician and herbalist – you can still visit his house and garden\, Hall’s Croft\, in Stratford-upon-Avon. A student\, Jack Lane\, accuses Susanna of having a sexual liaison with Rafe Smith\, a neighbour and family friend. \nAlthough Jack later withdraws the accusation\, Susanna sues for slander in the court of Worcester Cathedral. John Hall\, who is desperate for Susanna to clear her name in order to save his medical practice\, gives her his full support. \nAgainst a backdrop of divisions within the Church\, the play explores the very modern phenomenon of people’s private lives being held up to the intense glare of public scrutiny\, where the outcome is far from certain. \n\nROLES\nAll roles are available. Ages shown are “acting ages” and\, in some cases\, may be negotiable. \nJohn Hall – A very upright\, perhaps puritan\, physician. Playing age 40s/early 50s. \nSusanna Hall – John’s emotionally frustrated wife\, who is also an important help in his medical practice. Playing age late 20s/early 30s. \nElizabeth Hall – The young daughter of John and Susanna. A young-looking girl who is actually aged 10–12 would be preferred. \nHester Fletcher – Servant and nursemaid. Hester is not a cipher or a typical maid’s role. Playing age 20s. \nRafe Smith – Haberdasher\, neighbour and family friend of the Hall family\, trapped in an unhappy marriage. Playing age 30s/early 40s. \nJack Lane – A rather bumptious young nobleman studying medicine with Dr Hall\, although not very committed to it! Playing age 20s. \nBishop Parry – Bishop of Worcester – perhaps a little bit of a stereotypical bishop! Playing age 50s/60s. \nBarnabus Goche – Vicar General of the Worcester Diocese (Administrative Deputy to the Bishop). A self-important clever clogs! Playing age late 40s/50s.

Diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at the age of 15\, he faces ridicule\, hostility and isolation from those who do not understand his condition. \nWith the support of those who see the person behind the symptoms\, John begins to accept himself and finds a new purpose: challenging prejudice and campaigning for greater understanding of Tourette syndrome. \nWinner of two BAFTA awards\, including Leading Actor for Robert Aramayo and Casting. SUMMARY:GASLIGHT
DESCRIPTION:GASLIGHT\n2nd – 7th November 2026\nDeception burns behind closed doors.\nThe iconic Victorian thriller of manipulation\, secrets and suspense. The Manninghams appear to be the perfect couple — at least from the outside. But behind the elegant façade of their London home\, something far more sinister is at play. \nBella begins to doubt her sanity; Jack vanishes on mysterious errands; objects disappear\, and strange footsteps echo from the attic. Is Bella truly losing her mind? Why does the light keep flickering? And what prompts the sudden arrival of a detective at their door? Gaslight is a gripping story of psychological control\, deception and resilience — a chilling glimpse into the life of a woman fighting to reclaim her reality. \nRediscover Patrick Hamilton’s classic thriller in a new light — the play that gave us the term “gaslighting” — and experience a timeless drama that feels more unsettlingly relevant than ever. Step into the shadows and see it for yourself. \nAge recommendation: 12+ or at parental discretion. Trigger warnings: manipulation\, abusive relationships and themes of mental illness. \nThis amateur production of ‘Gaslight®’ is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.

SUMMARY:Cinema - The Penguin Lessons
DESCRIPTION:THE PENGUIN LESSONS – Saturday 14th November 2026  7.30pm\n\n\n\n\n“Change Can Come From The Most Unexpected Places“\n \nComedy Drama\n\nCert: 12A\n\nUK  2025  112 mins (plus an intermission of 15 mins)\n \nInspired by an extraordinary true story\, THE PENGUIN LESSONS is a warm\, funny and moving tale of an unlikely friendship set against the political turmoil of 1970s Argentina. \nDisillusioned English teacher Tom Michell takes a job at an elite boys’ school in Buenos Aires\, hoping for an easy life. But after rescuing a penguin from an oil-slicked beach\, he finds himself unable to get rid of his new companion. As the penguin becomes an unlikely fixture at the school\, Tom begins to connect with his students and rediscover his compassion for those around him. \nStarring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan and Jonathan Pryce\, this poignant comedy drama from director Peter Cattaneo (of Military Wives fame) follows an Englishman’s personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history. \n\n\nRotten Tomatoes audience score of 95%\n\n \n\nThe film will be shown with an intermission with the bar and ice creams available. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Penguin Lessons is appealing even if it curiously elides some disturbing geopolitical history and is elevated by a winning performance from Steve Coogan with a little help from a loveable pint sized companion.”  Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus \n\n\nOfficial Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdjEXNX1nSA
