DIRECTOR'S NOTES

It’s a real privilege to direct Rachel Wagstaff’s fresh and emotionally charged adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d here at the Talisman Theatre. This production marks my debut with the Talisman, and I’m delighted to be part of such a vibrant and welcoming creative community.
This play stands apart from Christie’s other works. Among her 33 original plays and adaptations, The Mirror Crack’d uniquely interweaves past and present events across multiple locations, creating a rich tapestry of suspense and psychological depth. Set in 1962 in the seemingly quiet village of St Mary Mead, the narrative unfolds across five different settings, sometimes simultaneously and overlapping. Bringing that to life on stage has been both a challenge and a joy.
Our set design avoids traditional walls, allowing scenes to flow seamlessly and maintaining the tension as Miss Marple and Chief Inspector Craddock unravel a murder that’s anything but straightforward.
I’m incredibly proud of our cast—many of whom are making their first appearance at the Talisman. Their commitment, talent, and teamwork have been instrumental in bringing this complex story to life.
We hope you enjoy the twists, turns, and emotional depth of The Mirror Crack’d as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.
