Launched in 2022 these events have proven to be very popular in providing experienced and new directors the opportunity to explore some alternative plays as well as showcasing local emerging talent as well as established performers.
All acts are performed at 7:30pm and then repeated again at 9pm. The 7:30pm performance is always very popular so prior booking is advised for the earlier session to guarantee a seat. A Fringe Extra to Brighten Your January…
‘EVERY BRILLIANT THING’
by DUNCAN MACMILLAN
with JONNY DONAHOE
This January, the Fringe team is delighted to partner with our friends at The Criterion Theatre to bring you something truly special to launch the new year in style. The Talisman Theatre is proud to announce a ‘Fringe Extra’ event, featuring a one-night-only performance of the acclaimed play ‘Every Brilliant Thing.’
Details:
Date: Thursday 9th January 2025
Time: 8pm
Running Time: Approx. 1 hour 15 minutes
Venue: Holiday Inn, Kenilworth
About the Play
Written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ is directed by Anne-marie Greene and stars Jon Elves. After a sold-out run at The Criterion Theatre in September 2024, we are thrilled to bring this incredible production to the Talisman Fringe for a one-night special event.
This unique performance is a captivating mix of one-man show and stand-up comedy, where the audience becomes a vital part of the storytelling – in the kindest and most delightful way imaginable.
The Story
It starts with a simple list:
- Ice cream
- Water fights
- Staying up late and watching TV
What begins as a childhood attempt to cheer up a struggling parent grows into a celebration of life’s small joys. As the child grows, the list expands — shared, amended, and cherished by others until it reaches one million entries: a collection of ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ worth living for.
This life-affirming play, inspired by true and fictional events, reminds us of the power of hope, even in life’s most challenging moments.
Make Your Own List!
Central to the performance is the idea of celebrating the little things that make life wonderful. On the night, we’ll invite you to share what you’d add to the list — your contributions might even make it into the performance!
‘EVERY BRILLIANT THING’ was first produced by Paines Plough and Pentabus Theatre on 28 June 2013 at Ludlow Fringe Festival.
Important Note:
Please be aware that this production includes themes of suicide and suicide prevention.
Reviews
“Jon Elves proves himself to be an absolute master of the stage. His rapport with the audience is utterly charming. He is not so much a character as a warm and welcoming host, with stories to tell, and lots of laughs. It would be hard not to leave the theatre without a smile on your lips.”
— Nick Le Mesurier, Warwickshire World
All seats for this production have now sold out. Please Contact Us or call the Box Office (01926 856548) for waitlist / returns or for wheelchair spaces which may still be available.
