'MOVING ON A STAGE' - DEVELOPING OUR COMMUNITY SPACE
We’ve embarked on ambitious plans to develop our Theatre which will be split across two phases.
Phase 1 saw a newly extended foyer giving patrons a great start to their evening with us, with a comfortable space for social events, a usable artistic space and flexibility for the wider community to use. Work started in spring 2022 and completed in spring 2023.
The cost of phase 1 (pre Covid) was expected to be around £275k. However, with supply issues and rising costs, the final bill reached over £408k.

FULL DEVELOPMENT
Our Barrow Road theatre was built to last 25 years back in 1969, so unsurprisingly it’s in need of modernisation. Our ambitious modernisation project will provide a much improved experience for both customers and performers alike and take our theatre forward for the next 50 years.
We achieved full planning permission in April 2019 for the construction of a two-storey extension which will incorporate a much larger first floor studio space with full access via a new lift along with extending our foyer space.
The full development will cost over £1.5m. and having completed phase 1 we have now moved on to phase 2.
We hope around a third will be funded from our own resources with the rest from grants.
