MOTHERING SUNDAY
Saturday 11th January 2025 7.30pm
"That is a gift and you must learn to use it"
Romantic Drama
Cert: 15
2021 104 mins (plus an intermission of 15 mins)
Director: Eva Husson
Starring: Odessa Young, Josh O’Connor, Glenda Jackson, Colin Firth and Olivia Coleman
During the course of a warm spring day in 1924, Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) a maidservant who works between the wars for the wealthy Niven family (played by Colin Firth and Olivia Colman) is given Mothering Sunday off to spend as she likes. To her surprise, Paul Sheringham (Josh O’Connor), the son of wealthy neighbours, invites her to spend the day with him at his family’s house while his parents are out having lunch with the Nivens and the Hobdays. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever.
Mothering Sunday succeeds superbly both in its evocation of a sensual, erotic love affair and in its treatment of the bereaved families who, despite their elevated place in society, can never replace all that they’ve lost.
The film will be shown with an intermission with the bar and ice creams available.
