Volunteer Role as Projectionist Needed!
The cinema team is currently planning an exciting menu of quality films for the months ahead, including new afternoon screenings for children. We are delighted that audience numbers are increasing, and for the first time, some screenings have been sold out. Many guests are choosing the Ego Mediterranean restaurant’s meal and movie offer, directly introducing new customers, and also offering the cinema free publicity via their extensive customer database.
Currently, we have just two regular projectionists; Richard Crump and Stuart Chambers. We have now recognised that this team needs to be bolstered by one or two new volunteers.
The role involves projection on some of the ten Saturdays a year, usually those shortly after the last performance of each play. We will agree a schedule of duty projectionists in advance. The usual setup is from around midday for the children’s shows, and later at around 6:00 pm for the evening screenings. You may choose to project both screenings or just the afternoon or evening one.
The set-up involves turning on various equipment, adjusting settings, and queuing up the film to start. At the end of the film, the process is reversed! There is a checklist for all of this, and training will be given for every detail of the process. This would be fully supervised until the volunteers are fully confident and competent. After that, any emergencies arising would be supported by Richard or Stuart.
Whilst these tasks are all quite simple and non-technical, we require people who can work systematically and carefully to follow instructions. Good eyesight and hearing would be an advantage as focus and sound levels have to be checked and adjusted. Above all they need to be reliable…hopefully the more trained up projectionist we have on the team then the commitment can be shared between us all. All training and support will be provided.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Talisman Theatre & Arts Centre in this capacity we’d love to hear from you. Being part of your local community theatre is really something special and we’re keen to keep our cinema offering engaging and running efficiently.
Please email Stuart (stuarthchambers@gmail.com), giving a phone number. We will then contact you to discuss the next steps and invite you down to meet the team and find out more.
