It’s been a while since James Harris has had the chance to unleash his directorial talents at The Talisman Theatre — 15 years, to be exact. In the meantime, he’s been busy with a few life adventures: raising a daughter, navigating a couple of career changes, finally settling into a new home in Kenilworth, growing a beard, and valiantly trying to keep his long-suffering wife happy (you’ll have to ask her if he’s succeeded!).

James comes with a rich background in drama teaching, having spent around sixteen years inspiring young minds at various secondary schools across Warwickshire. He’s also formally trained in stage combat and has put those skills to use in the stunt and action departments of the film industry — just check out his five credits on IMDb!

Comedy is where James truly flexes his muscles (or at least tries to — literal muscles have so far eluded him). He writes original scripts and has even ventured into stand-up, including a few memorable appearances. His play The Profanity Department received a fantastic welcome at the recent One Act Play Festival at The Bear Pit in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Beyond the stage, James has played a key role in shaping The Talisman’s reputation as a welcoming home for emerging comedians, helping develop the theatre’s stand-up nights. He’s even hosted a few shows himself — mostly to demonstrate how not to do it! He’s looking forward to the next comedy night on Sunday 31st August, where he’ll be firmly planted in the audience, enjoying some truly talented performers.

As a founding member of The Made In 48 Hours theatre company, James has helped raise thousands for local charities — often by being dragged along in the wake of his ever-creative wife, with only minimal grumbling.

Now, he’s thrilled to be directing The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) with such a talented and energetic company. Get ready for a whirlwind, laugh-packed journey through the Bard’s greatest hits — James and the cast can’t wait to share the fun with you!
