From an impromptu pub invitation in Sydney to directing Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d at the Talisman Theatre, Peter Nouwens’ theatrical journey is as captivating as the mysteries he brings to the stage.

Peter’s passion for theatre ignited unexpectedly in 1982 when he was invited to perform in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Revue. His comedic monologues, including Bob Newhart’s “Tobacco” and Gerard Hoffnung’s “The Bricklayer’s Lament,” left audiences in stitches and Peter utterly hooked.

He honed his craft at Sydney’s Genesian Theatre, embracing roles both on and off the stage—from acting and directing to mastering lighting, sound, and set design. Notably, he portrayed “The Man” in The Pope’s Play, penned by Pope John Paul II.

Since relocating to Warwickshire in 1996, Peter has directed, designed, written, or performed in nearly 40 productions across Australia and the UK. His repertoire includes acclaimed titles like Noises Off, The Dresser, The Hollow, Lend Me a Tenor, and You Can’t Take It With You.

Of Dutch descent, Peter brings a rich cultural perspective to his work, blending European sensibilities with his theatrical endeavours. By day, he excels as a Product Manager in the digital space, leveraging his extensive experience in both government and private sectors to inform his creative projects.

The theatre also played cupid in Peter’s life; he met his wife, Jackie, during a 1988 production celebrating Australia’s Bicentennial. They’ve been partners in life and art ever since.

Beyond the stage, Peter is an avid enthusiast of literature, performance art, science fiction, and the natural sciences. His creative pursuits extend to model collecting, boasting a collection of 37 classic, sports, super, and vintage cars.

With The Mirror Crack’d, Peter invites audiences into a world where past and present intertwine, secrets unravel, and Miss Marple’s keen intellect shines. Expect a production rich in atmosphere, layered storytelling, and the meticulous attention to detail that Peter is renowned for.
