Welcome back to Tali Talk — your friendly guide to everything happening behind (and in front of) the velvet curtain at the Talisman Theatre.
Whether you’re a seasoned theatregoer or joining us for your very first show, here’s a cheerful reminder of how to make the experience magical for everyone in the room.
🎥 No Recording, No Exceptions (Our Legal Bit… with Love)
We completely understand the urge to capture a brilliant moment — but filming, recording, or taking photos during the performance is not permitted.
Not only is it distracting for performers and fellow audience members, it also protects the rights of the production and everyone involved in bringing the show to life.
Trust us — the memories you take home with you (and maybe discuss passionately in the car park afterwards) are even better.
🎤 Please Don’t Sing Along (Even If You Really, Really Want To)
We know musicals are catchy. Extremely catchy. Possibly dangerously catchy.
But unless you’ve been officially cast, please keep the singing to the stage. The performers have spent weeks perfecting those harmonies — and they promise they’ve got it covered!
🤝 A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way
Community theatre is exactly that — a community.
Everyone you see on stage, and everyone working behind the scenes, is giving their time, energy and talent to bring these productions to life. From volunteers front of house to backstage crew, costume makers, lighting teams and performers, it truly takes a village.
A smile, a thank you, and a little patience go an incredibly long way in helping keep the magic of live theatre alive.
📱 The Glow of Doom (a.k.a. Your Phone)
We love your phone… just not during the show.
Please switch it to silent or off before the performance begins. That tiny screen glow might feel subtle to you, but on stage it looks like a lighthouse signalling ships from the back row.
🍬 Sweeties, Crisps & Suspicious Rustling
We fully support snacks in life. Theatre auditorium? Slightly trickier.
Anything that crunches, crinkles, or requires unwrapping at Olympic level volume becomes the unexpected star of the show. Save it for the interval and everyone stays friends.
💬 Whispering… That Isn’t Whispering
We know it’s tempting to check something with your neighbour mid-scene.
But what starts as a whisper usually turns into a full front-row commentary track. The actors can hear more than you think… and so can everyone else.
🚪 The Great Late Arrival Adventure
We understand: traffic, parking, lost car keys, or general “we thought it started later” energy.
If you are late, our wonderful front-of-house team will help you in at a suitable moment. Arriving early is still the smoothest (and least dramatic) option.
👏 Applause: The Rules (Sort Of)
Clap when you feel moved, delighted, or simply impressed by what you’ve just seen.
Laughter, gasps, and spontaneous appreciation are all very welcome.
🎭 The Golden Rule
Remember: live theatre is a shared experience. Every giggle, gasp and moment of silence is part of the magic.
So relax, enjoy, and let the performers do what they do best — while you sit back and enjoy the ride.
Thanks for being such an important part of our theatre community. We can’t wait to see you at the next show!
